headline CPI showed an increase of 0.9 percent from June quarter 2024 to September quarter 2024.

The headline CPI also showed a decrease of 0.9 percent from September quarter 2023 to September quarter 2024.

Major contributors to the change in September Quarter 2024

The major contributors to the increase in September Quarter 2024 are Alcoholic Beverages, Tobacco & Betel-Nut Group, Food & Non-Alcoholic Beverages Group and Health Group.

1. Alcoholic Beverages, Tobacco, and Betel-Nut Group
  The Alcoholic Beverages, Tobacco & Betel Nut Group increased by 3.1 percent in this quarter mainly due to the increases in Betel Nut & Mustard (+2.7%) and Alcoholic Beverages (+3.7%).
2. Food & Non-Alcoholic Beverages Group
  The Food & Non-Alcoholic Beverages Group increased by 1.3 percent in this quarter mainly due to the increases in Fruits & Vegetables (+3.6%) and Dairy Products, Eggs & Cheese (+2.4%)
3. Health Group
  The Health Group increased by 1.7 percent in this quarter mainly due to rise in Medical Supplies (+3.5%).

The increase in the Headline CPI was partially offset by Housing Group.

Housing Group

The Housing Group decreased by 0.1 percent in this quarter mainly due to fall in Housing Maintenance (-5.2%).
