HEADLINE CPI

The headline CPI showed an increase of 1 .9 percent from June quarter 2025 to September quarter 2025.

The headline CPI also showed an increase of 4.7 percent from September quarter 2024 to September quarter 2025.

Major contributors to the change in March Quarter 2025

The major contributors to the increase in September Quarter 2025

  • Alcoholic Beverages, Tobacco & Betel Nut Group

The Alcoholic Beverages Tobacco & Betel Nut Group increased by 16.8 percent this quarter mainly due to the increase in Betel Nut & Mustard (26.3%).

  • Housing Group

The Housing Group increases by 0.5 percent in this quarter mainly due to a rise in Cooking (2.5%)

  • Health Group

The health Group increases by 1.7 percent in this quarter mainly due to a rise in Medical Supplies (3.2%)

  • Transport Group

The Transport Group increases by 0.4 percent in this quarter mainly due to a rise in Fuels & Lubricants (3.4%)

The increase in the September Quarter has slightly been offset by the decrease in Food & Non-Alcoholic Beverages Group due to the GST zero rating introduced in June of this year.

The Food & Non-Alcoholic Beverages Group decreased by -4.4 percent in this quarter mainly due to decreases in Cereals (-1.2%) and Fish (-2.8%).
