+1.9% Increase Quarterly change in headline CPI

Highlights

The headline CPI showed an increase of 1.9 percent from June quarter 2023 to September quarter 2023. The headline CPI also showed an increase of 2.2 percent from September quarter 2022 to September quarter 2023.

Major contributors to the change in September Quarter 2023

The major contributors to the increase in September Quarter 2023 are Alcoholic Beverages, Tobacco and Betel-Nut Group, Food and NonAlcoholic Beverages Group and Transport Group.

    1. Alcoholic Beverages, Tobacco, and Betel-Nut Group
      The Alcoholic Beverages, Tobacco and Betel-Nut Group Increased by 5.5 percent in this quarter mainly due to increases in Betel Nut & Mustard (+9.3%).
    2. Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages Group
      The Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages Group increased by 2.0 percent in this quarter mainly due to Fruits and Vegetables (+4.6%) and Cereals (+2.6%).
    3. Transport Group
      The Transport Group increased by I .2 percent in this quarter mainly due to rise Fuel and Lubricants (+ 13.6%).

The increase in the Headline CPI was partially offset by the drop in the Communication Group.

    1. Communication Group
      The Communication Group decreased by 3.5 percent in the quarter mainly due to a fall in Telephone Services (-5.0%).
